Research has proven that your child will have a more advanced intellectual development through pretend play. It is through using toys that this can be achieved.

Children love nothing more than to play with toy food and pretend to be cooking their favorite meal just like mommy does it. Boys and girls alike can have lots of fun with toy food and play kitchens. Investing in buying a durable and long lasting set can provide countless hours of fun for your child. Not to mention the fact that it can get them out of your way for a bit while you cook the real meal.

One great set is the Melissa and Doug Classic Deluxe Kitchen. This product has everything that a kitchen needs and more. It comes with a refrigerator a stove with an opening oven. The knobs all turn to give a much more realistic effect. Additionally, this model comes with both a freezer and microwave for further play value. You’ll also find a spacious sink that may help you teach your kids that washing up is not as so hard after all. There is also a great deal of storage space for all the kitchen utensils and play pots. Visually stimulating, this kitchen is made from solid wood, offering a level of durability many other toys simply cannot meet.

It is important to note that this model does not come with the cooking utensils and accessories, but you could always purchase a set before assembling the toy kitchen, as the Melissa and Doug line have several great play kitchens accessory options to choose from. Although the Melissa and Doug Classic Deluxe Kitchen is a bit pricier than some of the other ones on the market, it is well made and will provide your child with many years of enjoyment. In fact it is so well constructed and designed, that you will be able to pass it on to your younger children when they are old enough to play with it.

Now before you rush out and buy you child one, you should know that it does require some time to assemble. It could take as long a couple of hours. Do not worry too much though, as our staff found the color coding helps to ensure it is difficult make a mistake when putting the pieces together. Just make certain you have enough room to assemble it as it has lots of nuts and bolts and little pieces. For this reason, it would probably be a good idea to do it when the little ones are not around.

Once assembled, the Melissa And Doug Classic Deluxe Kitchen is quite safe for most little ones to play with as all the edges are rounded. There is no need for you to worry about the children getting hurt on any sharp corners. All the knobs and faucet also have soft curves, and the little plastic windows of the microwave and oven are unbreakable. The screws and the bolts are also recessed, and the wooden pieces and all the metal hinges are pre-painted with hard durable acrylic paint. As a result, you can rest assured that the play kitchen is a fun yet safe toy for your little ones to enjoy.

We all know that Step2 makes awesome lifestyle kitchens for children, but the LifeStyle Grand Walk-In Kitchen is truly in a league of its own. This one offers just about everything and is probably the closest that your child will ever get to having a set just like the one that Mommy and Daddy have at home.

Let’s start off with the size of this amazing toy kitchen. Step2 makes kitchens of all sizes and this may very well be the biggest. They don’t call it a walk-in kitchen for no reason; it actually allows children to walk into it, as it has a bar-style counter on two sides and a fridge and stove/sink on the third side. The fourth side is open to allow children to walk in and out as they please.

For homes that don’t have much space for their little ones to play, this may not be a good idea. Home daycare centers or classrooms that want to invest in a pretend kitchen set may be wise to invest in this one as it accommodates multiple children at once. More than one child can be in and around this amazing little kitchen, some even ‘eating’ and cooking at the same time!

This is an electronic kitchen, so it requires 4 AA and 2 AAA batteries for the electronic phone, stove, and microwave to ‘talk back’ to your children and make all of the sounds and chitter-chatter that they love so much. The LifeStyle Grand Walk-In Kitchen does require quite a bit of battery power.

We all know how important accessories are for a pretend kitchen set. No Lifestyle play kitchen is complete without a nice set of accessories, and the fact that this kitchen has a nice set of accessories is the understatement of the year. It comes with everything that a child could ever need to create their own imaginary culinary delight and then some.

To name some of them, the kitchen includes a frying pan with a matching lid as well as a boiling pot with a matching lid. It also includes silver pots and pans with lids as well. Also included are a coffee pot and coffeemaker, four stainless steel cooking tools, a strainer, two plates, two cups, two bowls, two knives, two forks, and two spoons. Also included is a salt and pepper shaker and a pepper mill, five pretend spice jars, a pot holder, two wicker style baskets, a phone, and 64 pieces of play food—much more than come with most other sets.

It also comes with an 11” stool to allow children to pull up a seat to the counter. Additional stools can be purchased.

Step2 products are durable to say the least and they can withstand a lot of play. This Step2 kitchen is no different. The surfaces are even able to be easily wiped clean, making it easy to fix real spills that may occur when your children are playing pretend with real items.

This playset is as realistic as they come, down to the hardware on the handles and the faux stainless steel (looking) appliances. This manufacturer has gone to so many pains to make this the stretch limo of toy kitchens, and the children in your life are bound to be in love. Just make sure you have the space!

The name of this model says it all, “big and bright.” The colors are incredibly vivid and really make this play kitchen even more fun and exciting. While the size is just perfect for most little kids, you need to consider how much space you will need to get this to fit into a room. Other than this, your kids will love playing house with the Kidkraft Deluxe Big and Bright Kitchen. It has all the elements that are in a real kitchen that will make for hours of entertainment of pretend fun.

The KidKraft Deluxe Big and Bright Kitchen comes with everything your little ones need to be the master chef of their own KidKraft kitchen. It has a pink refrigerator and freezer with doors that they can open and shut. And, of course, every chef needs a bright blue stove and oven, and a yellow microwave to cook up their masterpieces. These have little windows in them so they can keep a keen eye on their food while it is baking. The knobs actually turn and make an authentic clicking sound. After all of this cooking, there are always the clean up chores, so the sink and faucet comes in quite handy. The sink actually holds water, but don’t worry because the sink comes out so the water can be dumped. There is also ample storage above and below the sink to store the toys, such as pots, pans, and dishes that all play kitchen sets need. Of course, all playsets need a bright yellow telephone just in case the little cook wants to take the night off and would rather order take out.

What impressed us the most about the Kidkraft Deluxe Big and Bright Kitchen, besides the bright colors, is how well constructed this is. We have reviewed several brands of kids’ kitchens, and most of them were not as sturdy as this one is. The hinges on the doors are good and strong, and the doors open and close very easily. This is made from real wood, and, as a result, it weighs quite a bit. However, this is a good thing because it will hold up very well for few years to come. Just make sure you assemble it in the same room you want it to reside in. The pieces, which, by the way, there are a lot of them, are all made to fit together as one piece of furniture instead of separate units. We always like to examine the assembly instructions of all the toys we review because we know this can be quite frustrating, especially when there are a lot of pieces involved. We found that the instructions were very easy to follow, and all of the parts are numbered, which makes it much easier to figure out which piece goes where. While they are easy to follow, it does take quite awhile to put this together.

While this may seem like it is a bit pricey, we believe that the quality and sturdy construction justifies the cost. This is something that last for a few years, and it will keep children entertained as well as stimulate their imaginations.

The Fisher-Price Sweet Magic Kitchen offers a plethora of play options. This play kitchen can give your child some heavy-duty pretend baking experiences. This kitchen includes a refrigerator, side storage space, an overhead pantry, a sink, a stove top with knobs and burners, and an oven. The sweet treats your little one makes “looks” as though they might be real because they change colors after they are “cooked.”

A cookbook comes built-in with this toy kitchen so kids can see what their treat is supposed to look like before and after baking. The Fisher-Price Sweet Magic Kitchen even provides an “icing bag” that has a soft tip to let kids decorate their culinary works of art when complete. Naturally, a kitchen such as this one has to also have a mixing bowl, baking dish, a whisk, a spatula, and a potholder. Along with those accessories are two plates, two “water goblets,” a pitcher, a spoon, a fork, a cake stand, a cake mix, an egg, a milk carton, and a four-cake topper. Additionally, there’s a phone – for taking those call-in bakery orders!

Play kitchens are designed to be fun and also to spur an interest in cooking and the preparation of food. They can be educational as well as fun, and all the children our staff observed at the testing session of this product just loved it. There are so many options on this toy that imaginations can take flight and soar for hours. The kitchen needs three size “D” batteries to operate, and they are not included with the toy.

Kids also like the catchy tunes that play while waiting for the food to “cook”. It is happy, energetic, and fun music. A few complaints were noted about the color of the food – it is supposed to turn different colors after it is “cooked” in the oven and sometimes the colors don’t stay changed very long. One mom recommended setting the cooking tray close to the ice tray to help the colors turn and stay longer, so that’s one thing to try. On further inspection, it was discovered that the oven has a “removable cooling unit” that must be completely frozen from being in your freezer before it will change the colors of the food. When the ice tray is placed in the oven and the switch is turned on, a fan (courtesy of the three “D” batteries) comes on to blow the treats cool and into a color change. It’s a special technology to have the food show different colors after it is baked. Also, on a couple of the units, the oven door was a little difficult to get it to stay closed, staff noted.

As a child’s toy kitchen, this unit has a fantastic array of accessories, shelves, and storage options. Kids care about accessories and the ability to play with the toy and “work” at the stove like mommy and daddy. The Fisher-Price Sweet Magic Kitchen lets them role-play their cooking and baking parts. At the same time, they are learning about foods and recipes. The playset provides an outlet for creative and imaginative cooking and baking skills and allows abilities to unfold. How many a master chef has got his/her start in just such a toy kitchen? The kids we observed had tons of fun playing at cooking.

We were simply amazed by the detailed design of the KidKraft Large Kitchen. They have thought of just about every little detail to make this pint-sized play kitchen look like a real kitchen. When we say pint-sized, don’t get the wrong idea. It actually measures 42”x16”x5”, so you definitely need to make sure you have the space for this. It would be ideal for your little one’s playroom as long as the room is big enough. You may have to get rid of some other toys because we believe that this is a great buy that will keep your kids occupied for hours on end. They can role play and stretch their little imaginations to their limits. This should also be a hit when they have their little friends over for a play date. Most kids love to play house, and this set gives them the perfect setting to prepare some really great feasts.

The KidKraft Large Kitchen makes it to the top of our list as one of the best well-designed sets we have seen on the market. It’s made from a very sturdy wood that should hold up very well over the years to accommodate more than one child in the family. This comes equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, a stove and oven, a microwave, a sink with a swivel pretend faucet, and a cabinet for storage. The stove knobs, door hinges and handles have all tested out well under some rough handling conditions. The refrigerator even has an inset that is, as the mfg. description states, “finished with frescoed water and ice dispenser,” which really means it is basically a picture. We love the fact that they have even gone as far as making it multiple colors, (pink, blue, and yellow) to appease both boys and girls. We think this makes a pretty bold statement that the kitchen is not just for females anymore. This even has a play clock and note pad on the side of the fridge. If you add some play kitchen toys, such as play food, dishes, pots and pans, your child will have one of the best fully equipped model around.

As mentioned before, the thing we like the best about the KidKraft Large Kitchen is all of the detail that has been designed into this. The doors actually open and close, there are knobs for the stove, and a sink that can actually hold water and is removable for easy cleaning. There is plenty of storage to keep all the mess of play dishes and food put up. We were a bit disappointed that the water and ice dispensers were not like the real ones. With all the other detail, they could have at least put a plastic lever that could be pushed. We also really like that it is made of real wood versus particle board or plastic. Although we should warn you that because it is made of real wood it is very heavy when you assemble it or try to move it. Another warning, the KidKraft Kitchen comes unassembled with lots of parts. While the instructions are pretty easy to follow, you should allow at least a couple of hours and a lot of patience to put this together. Other than this, your kid(s) should have a blast with this for years to come.

Little Tikes has certainly outdone themselves with this amazing play kitchen. Of the different toy kitchens on the market today, the Little Tikes Prep and Serve Kitchen is certainly one of the finest that money can buy. This one is best for children who are three years of age or older, but there is plenty of room to play so they can play with friends or siblings, or even you if you want to play as well.

This Little Tikes play kitchen has a bit of all of the best sets out there combined into one. Unlike some of the other play kitchen sets out there, this one does have electronic sounds and noises that it makes, which kids seem to love. Some kids are able to use their active imaginations to create sounds of their own, but why should they have to when their sets can do all of that for them?

This little kitchen set has everything that the future chefs of America could ever need to prepare their very own culinary delight. This kitchen may even be more well equipped than your real kitchen at home! It has the latest in kitchen décor, from stainless steel looking appliances to granite looking countertops and ultra modern, sleek cabinets. The electric burner on the stove makes real sounds as if it were being cooked on and there is more storage space than a play kitchen should probably ever have. There is even a big sink with a sleek, modern looking faucet and an oven.

In order for the sounds to work properly, the Little Tikes Prep and Serve Kitchen requires a set of AA batteries, and they have to be purchased separately as they don’t come with the kitchen set.

Just as the name implies, it is great for not only preparing imaginary delights but serving them as well. It comes complete with everything your little cook could ever need to prepare and serve those delicious meals, including a stove and food preparation area and a kitchen island to serve the food on. There is even a stool included for a play eating session!

It is great for the accessories it includes. It comes with a hamburger and buns, corn with a slab of melted butter on it, a spoon, knife and fork, a cutting board and included knife, a pot and a pan and even an apple and an orange. The refrigerator even has a pretend icemaker on it!

If you want your kids to have the best that money can buy, and you are in the market for a toy kitchen set, the Little Tikes Prep and Serve Kitchen may just be the right thing for your little one. They should have hours and hours of imaginary culinary fun with this adorable little kitchen.

Moreover, if price is important to you, this is also a great way to go as this is one of the more affordable Little Tikes toy kitchen sets on the market for the features that it comes with. While it is rather large, it has a great deal of features and accommodates more than one child at once, one of the best things about the kitchen. If you want to make your child’s birthday or Christmas this year, this kitchen is a great choice.

It offers a multitude of activities for little ones. More than 21 songs are available for your child to sing along with (and you can sing with them!). Music selections include both traditional favorites and some new tunes. Radio stations will greet your child with fun phrases and songs. There are over 25 sounds and activities to keep your little one entertained.

The Fisher-Price play kitchen will help your child begin to get familiar with normal kitchen sights, sounds, and activities. Imagination can be shaped by all the possibilities that are waiting in this toy kitchen. As well as having fun, singing songs, and enjoying the comfort a kitchen can provide, the Laugh N Learn set also offers a method to learn the alphabet.

Other educational ideas and tools include a ball that your tot can drop in the kitchen sink and you can encourage him/her to count each time they put the ball in. The balls are a good size, just right to fit a baby’s hands. There are also a variety of shapes and colors to stimulate your little one’s senses. The stove has spin numbers on the front which will help enable recognition of the numbers. As can be seen by observing youngsters around play kitchens such as this one, fun and education can be combined.

This set will require three “C” batteries to operate which are not included. Our staff noted that assembly took only about 30 minutes, but there were a number of screws to put in place. Remember that children should not be around small parts and pieces as they could potentially be a choking hazard, so keep children away from the toy before it is fully assembled.

The Fisher-Price Laugh N Learn Kitchen is designed to be fun and instructional. The set has a toaster that plays music and pops up, and there is a light switch that can be turned on and off. The faucet makes a noise and the refrigerator opens and closes. The playset offers three music modes: you can choose play, music, or learning mode. There are also two volume settings. So many activities are available that it can keep little ones entertained for quite a while. The refrigerator door also has a shape-sorter and a book that little ones can flip the through the pages. By the time the meal is prepared, eaten, dishes are washed, and the table is cleaned (throwing in songs, ABCs, and counting numbers along the way), it makes for a very full day for your tiny tot. Because it has three different modes and levels of play, that helps keep the interaction for your child going and keeps their attention intact. It also teaches the early basic skills such as what “open” and “close” means for the oven and the refrigerator.

We are certain that your little princess will love playing “mommy” in this adorable KidKraft Sweet Pastel Kitchen. She will definitely feel like a princess with her very own pretend play kitchen. Her imagination will let her be the ruler of her kingdom as she prepares feasts that are fit for a king or queen. The pastel colors will make her feel calm and relaxed as she slaves away to get all of her baking and cooking done. After all, it isn’t always easy being a princess, or maybe a domestic goddess would be more appropriate title in this case. With her set, she can pretend to be anything she wants to be. With this, she can create her own fairy tale. She may even decide that some hired help would be nice. If there are any brothers or sisters around, she may be able to bribe them with some delectable treats.

The colors in the KidKraft Sweet Pastel Kitchen just scream the words “too cute,” and it is just right for a little girl’s play time fun. Even though this has blue in it, we think it is a little too pretty for a boy. While we definitely think that they are for boys and girls, there are some others that KidKraft makes that are a little less feminine looking if you are shopping for a boy. This has everything necessary to keep any little girl very busy in imaginative play. It has a stove top, oven, and microwave for the cooking and baking that will need to be done. The milk and eggs and leftovers can go in the fridge to keep them nice and “cold,” and no kitchen would be complete without a sink to wash the dirty dishes. We think toy kitchen sets are one of the best things you can buy for your kids to keep them entertained, and this one is so solidly built that you won’t have to worry about it falling apart.

One of the things we like the best about the KidKraft Sweet Pastel Kitchen is the position of the microwave. Some of the models that we have looked at in the past are on the top and make it difficult for shorter kids to reach them. This one is right next to the stove and can be easily reached by all kids. Some may argue that it is too low for taller kids, but it is at the same level as the oven, and the pretend buttons are right above it. Our issue with it being too high was that little ones might use a chair or stool to reach it, which raised some safety concerns. With this design, it is completely safe for all sizes. We like that this one comes with some play kitchen toys to help out, as well. It has a pot and a pan plus a spatula and a ladle. This is nice to get them started in their play before you have to start divvying out some more cash for the additional kitchen stuff they will just have to have. The little striped canopy and painted window with curtains makes this even more adorable. This set will make your little princess as happy as can be, and when a princess is happy, everybody in the kingdom is happy.

For some kids, the basic set is just not enough. Some kids have a more active imagination than others, just as some little ones have been more impacted by the changes that technology has put us through than others. Little ones who fall into the latter category might not be as excited about the prospect of a run of the mill toy kitchen set as some others, and for such a child there is always the option of the Little Tikes Interactive Kitchen.

The Interactive Kitchen is unlike any other toy kitchen set on the market. We have all seen or played with the regular toy kitchens on the market, perhaps even one made by Little Tikes. Little Tikes has been making pretend kitchens for quite a while, so long that you may have even played with one on your own. Chances are that you have never played with one that is quite like this kitchen.

What makes this model so special? For one, it is interactive, meaning that it can communicate with your child. Just about everything on this toy kitchen set makes a sound, from the running of water and the clanking around of dishes to the dinging of the microwave. The microwave can make any of three distinct sounds.

The only downside that many parents find with this Little Tikes play kitchen is that it doesn’t come with a whole lot of accessories. It does come with a few, but toy kitchen accessories are not difficult to find and come rather cheap, especially from Little Tikes. The set does come with a few accessories that go with the kitchen, and the rest are up to you to purchase. That isn’t so bad, as most kids go through the included accessories and lose them, anyway.

Another great thing about this toy kitchen is that the colors are fairly neutral. This means that it can be used for both boys and girls, unlike those kitchens in bright pink and yellow. This is great for daycare centers and households that have more than one child. In instances where parents may be expecting more than one child, these neutral colors may prove especially useful as toy kitchen sets are known to last a good long while.

If you like a pretend kitchen set that has realistic sounds, the Little Tikes Interactive Kitchen may be a good idea. There are a few versions of this to choose from, but they have all been known to outlast their stickers and decals; that is why there are replacement decals that can be purchased for most options.

If you want a real toy kitchen set that will last longer than your child will be able to use it, consider going with Little Tikes. There are plenty of kitchens to choose from, but for those who want to supply their child with the high tech kitchens that interact with their little ones and keep them busy for hours on end, it just may be the right selection. These play kitchens are great for kids three years of age and up and are even great for boys. Who knows? You may be nurturing the next Emeril Lagassi before too much time goes by!

It seems to be every little girl’s dream at one point or another to own a play kitchen set, and the
Lifestyle Dream Kitchen is certainly one of the best ones that money can buy. Some parents have been known to envy their children for all of the knobs and whistles that this revolutionary toy kitchen set comes with.

This adorable Step2 toy gives children plenty of opportunities to explore what their miniature kitchen has to offer. It is complete with an overhead light, an electronic burner, a cordless phone, a sink, a fridge, an oven, a range, a microwave, an overhead dish rack, and a silverware drawer, a variety of other drawers, cabinet space, and a pretend wicker basket.

This set also comes with 27 accessories, including four plates and four bowls, a salt and pepper shaker, six pieces of flatware, two cups, a pitcher with a lid, a creamer cup with a lid, and five pots and pans—all with lids.

The best thing about it in the eyes of many parents is that it is great for boys and girls, as the colors are fairly gender neutral. The main color is beige, and with a hunter green accent it doesn’t scream ‘boy’ or ‘girl,’ just fun! The rest of the Lifestyle Dream Kitchen is done in white, and there are ‘stainless steel’ (looking) appliances, to keep your child as trendy as possible in new kitchen styles.

Many play kitchens come with a lot of accessories but no place to put them. This is not the case with this toy, as there is plenty of cupboard space and the refrigerator, oven, and microwave all have enough room to place accessories. Kids will love being just like mommy and daddy as they wash dishes, prepare imaginary meals, and chit chat on the phone while doing it. In addition to all of the accessories that come with the set, more can be purchased, like a toaster or a coffee pot or tea kettle. There is no end to the imaginary play with this set.

As far as assembly is concerned it is important to note that no toy worth having is a breeze to put together. It is well crafted and durable, as is the case with each and every Step2 play kitchen. It may take a while to put together, but in the end it will all be worth it.

Step2 products are great for kids of all ages, boys and girls. Whether your little one is two years old or six years old they are bound to get loads of imaginary fun out of this kitchen set. Every little kid loves to play with a pretend kitchen set, yes even the male ones. This one is made from very hard plastic and can outlast even the most rambunctious of little ones, making it perfect for daycares and homes with more than one child.

If you are looking for a pretend kitchen set that your child will be able to keep for years on end, possibly even long enough to pass on to a younger sibling this might very well be the perfect one for you. Consider the Lifestyle Dream Kitchen and any other Step2 product for your little one and watch their face light up with delight.
