The first thing we would like to say about the Learning Resources Giant Play Food Set is don’t let the name or price confuse you or scare you off from considering this as an option for pretend play food for your kids. Second, Learning Resources has a full line of products including play kitchen food, kitchen sets and utensils for children. They have a solid reputation when it comes to educating and entertaining kids. Our staff has reviewed many of these products, and we have given most of their products high marks.
Now for the low down of this particular product. There are two reasons why we stated not to be misled by the name or the price. First, as far as the name, “Giant” does not apply to the size of the play food but to the amount of food that is in the plastic container that comes with it. Believe it or not, there are 80 individual items including the container. This is what they are referring to when they named it Learning Resources Giant Play Food Set. The actual sizes of the each of the play food items are very close to their real counterparts. Most of these are so life-like that you are actually tempted to take a bite of them. At first glance, this product seems to be very expensive for a kids play toy. We found a range of prices for this, but most sites we visited listed it from $120 to $130. One of the problems we noticed when we looked at the product description is that it does not individually list all of the pieces that is included in this set. We finally found a consumer review that provided a list of all the items. As we examined this, we realized that this includes almost everything you can find in all of the other play food sets that this company makes. If you consider that they make 10 other sets that are normally sold for around $20 each, then you can see why this item is sold at this price. Some of the other products come with little baskets, so this might be something to consider. You will just need to decide whether you want to pay a lump sum for all of the food at once or spread it out a little. You may even decide that your child does not need all of these pieces to keep track of. Our staff thought that this would be a great idea for a daycare center or a pre-school where there are lots of children.
The Learning Resources Giant Play Food Set contains all of the food groups plus a few sweets. To save time and space, the set includes most of the foods that are for breakfast, lunch, dinner, picnics, and sandwiches. There are fruit and veggies and even multicultural food items. If you want to spend this much money, your child will be well equipped to cook up almost anything they want.
