Play Food

Child experts say that the best way to teach children is by example, and nutritional experts say that a healthy breakfast is essential for a child’s brain and body to grow. For busy parents, following this advice is not always easy to achieve, and we certainly can use all of the help we can get. Our hectic morning schedules make it very difficult to insist that our little ones eat a healthy breakfast without a tantrum being thrown. This is what we like most about the Learning Resources Healthy Breakfast Set. Obviously, we are talking about pretend play food, but it does show kids by example about the different options of healthy food they can eat for breakfast. This set provides   parents with the opportunity to use play time to teach their child about healthy options, and it may even help them influence or encourage their child to try the different food items in this toy kitchen food set.

This set comes with several breakfast food options. The set includes a half of an English muffin, an  egg, a banana, 7 strawberries in a bowl, 2 pancakes, butter, yogurt, and orange juice. We did find it strange that milk was not in here. They have also added a fun basket with handles that holds all of the play food. This works well for storage purposes and helps the little ones carry their breakfast food wherever they go. They can even take it shopping to “buy” their goods.  The food is very real looking, especially the orange juice and banana. The manufacturer’s recommended age is 3 to 12 years of age. However, we think this is more appropriate for ages 3 to 8 years at the most. Any child that is older than 8 would probably get bored with this very easily. We like that these are washable because kids seem to make dirty, sticky messes no matter what they are doing.

We really like the idea of play food for kids’ imaginary play. It is good, clean fun that is very easy for little kids to play with. Anytime a toy can spark the amazing imagination of children it is a good thing. We think it is even better that there is nothing to plug in, no batteries are required, and a big bonus for the Learning Resources Healthy Breakfast Set is that it doesn’t make any noise. However, the kids will probably make up for this. If this can distract your child from all of the electronic mind-numbing games and television, it is well worth its retail price of twenty two dollars.

One of our staff members thought this would be a really good idea to have in schools or daycare centers. The teachers could incorporate this in play time and use them as props to teach the children about food and nutrition. These products are definitely durable enough to withstand the punishment several children may put them through.
Overall, we like the Learning Resources Healthy Breakfast Set because it is great entertainment, and it is educational.
