Play Food

healthy dinner set

The Learning Resources Healthy Dinner Set contains play food that represents various healthy choices for the evening meal. Anyone who is a parent can probably identify with children who are picky eaters or only want to eat food that is crammed with sugar and is very unhealthy for them. In this role, it is our responsibility to train our children to eat nutritionally, which oftentimes makes mealtimes very unpleasant. Our staff has investigated many of the Learning Resources products, and we feel that their line of products is not only fun for kids to play with, but they can also teach them the proper choices when it comes to nutrition. While we don’t claim these to be a definite solution, we do feel that it can have some persuasive powers through the playtime activities it encourages.

The pretend play food that comes in the set represents a variety of food groups. The set contains a grilled chicken breast, spaghetti with tomato sauce, peas, beans, a potato, 4 apple slices, 5 carrot sticks, French bread, a glass of milk, and it comes with a cute basket with a handle that holds all of the items. They have also included a guide for different activities for kids to do with the food items, as well as a Teaching Guide that demonstrates various methods of using this to teach children about food. This product seems to be very durable, and we checked out several customer reviews that attest to this. We also like how real looking set is in size and color, so children can easily recognize what food it actually is. We do not, however, recommend this for children under three because some of the pieces are pretty small and easy for little ones to choke on. All of the items within this set are washable.

The Learning Resources Healthy Dinner Set creates many opportunities for children to learn many different things about food. They can use handy basket to go shopping for the food. After they are done shopping, they can bring it back home and cook it in their pretend kitchen. This will be even more fun if they have a play oven, stove, or refrigerator. Most children have some sort of play dishes and utensils, so they can set the table and serve their delicious food. This is a great way for children to play act with other children, and parents should get in on the act, as well. The play kitchen food centers a child’s attention on specific food items that are healthy choices for them without an adult standing over them and forcing them to eat it because it is good for them. When it is time for them to eat their real dinner, this may very well have some influence on them to eat well.

It is our opinion that the Learning Resources Healthy Dinner Set can certainly help parents educate their children about healthy food choices. At the same time, kids will have great fun with the playset.
