The Learning Resources Sandwich Set can open a whole new imaginary world for a child. This set includes all of the “fixins” to make three pretend sandwiches that actually closely resemble the real thing. The play food items that come with this set are six slices of bread, four white plus two slices of whole wheat to help emphasize a healthier choice, two slices of cheese, and a slice each of bologna, salami, turkey, tomato and lettuce. Kids should have a blast making their sandwiches and serving them up to their pretend customers or even to their real family and friends. We are sure the stuffed animals and dolls will get a taste of these made-to-order sandwiches, as well.
This set will give kids from ages 3 to 6 many options to stimulate their imagination and their creativity. With all of the options for sandwich making, they can mix and match to their heart’s content. They could even open their own pretend sandwich shop that is sure to be a hit with all of their little friends, whether imaginary or not. Of course, they can serve up a healthier version for their health conscious customers. With six slices of bread, they could really come up with a very creative multi-layer super duper sandwich. They might just give Subway a little kid-friendly competition, and when they are not open for business, they can serve up some of their play food specialties to Mom and Dad or whoever else might be around.
In our opinion, the Learning Resources Sandwich Set fulfills at least two of our requirements to meet our kid standards. One of these is it can provide a lot of fun entertainment that can keep little ones occupied without getting easily bored. As mentioned before, there are a multitude of possibilities for kids to do with the sandwich stuff. The sandwich set stimulates little minds and stretches their imagination. The second requirement is that it can be used as an age appropriate teaching tool. This is what we like most about the Learning Sources play kitchen food. It helps teach kids about food by giving hands-on-experience with it in a pretend setting that is more comfortable for them. As parents, we are way too busy and often make the little ones’ sandwiches for them to avoid the hassle and the mess. Since we know what they like and don’t like, we all too often don’t make them try other options. They get to see different options and understand about different food groups. When the little ones are making us our favorite sandwiches, this is a wonderful opportunity at a more relaxed time to talk about the different foods and nutrition on a level they can understand. Sometimes, by just making them aware of different things, they may actually decide to try something new. If this can be accomplished with it, then in our book the payback is worth far more than the cost for the Learning Resources Sandwich Set.
