They normally use Velcro to keep the pieces together. The magnets are just more fun for kids to play with. All the kids have to do is put the scoop on the ice cream flavors and they automatically attract to each other. We are somewhat surprised the ice cream is plastic. One of the big selling points of their products is that they are made from wood, which makes them more durable than plastic. One last point, it would be nice if they would include a lid for the boxes they put their products in.
