The Melissa and Doug Spice Rack Set is a fun compliment to any kid’s collection. This set comes with just enough of the right spices to make any little cook’s play food meals taste delicious. They can add just enough seasoning to give it that nice and spicy zest that only a master chef knows how to do. This company has an amazing and very creative line of several wooden play food sets that will make these spices a lot of fun for kids’ pretend play. When they have guests over for dinner, you can be sure this spice rack will be used. They can set the salt and pepper on the table to let their dinner guests season to satisfy their taste. Just as any good host should do. In their play kitchen, everything needs to be perfect from the correct dinnerware right down to the spices.
With the Melissa and Doug Spice Rack Set, their little play kitchens will be nicely stocked. Or, at least good enough for what they know about spices. This play kitchen food set has salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, and cinnamon. These are certainly the main spices found in most adult kitchens. While the little tykes are probably familiar with salt and pepper and maybe cinnamon, you can take this opportunity to introduce them to paprika and oregano. You could even discuss with them what food these spices go well on. They are never too young to get a few cooking tips from mom and dad. These spices come in bright and cheery colors, and the bottles even make a shaking sound that the kids are going to find amusing, as well as a lot of fun. The lids’ colors match the bottles, and they have holes in them to make them even more realistic. This will give them a little exercise in matching things and in reinforcing colors to the youngest ones. It will also test their coordination when they take the lids off and on.
While the Melissa and Doug Spice Rack Set is a great set, there were a few drawbacks. We are really disappointed they didn’t add magnets in the lids. This has been a feature we really thought was a great design in their set. In their recommended age group of 3 to 6, the three year olds may have trouble with this because they are a pretty tight fit, and they have to put on just right. Plus, the magnets are just fun for little kids. We like that the spice rack has a strip of wood in front to keep the bottles secure so they don’t knock them on the head as they are trying to get them down from somewhere. It would probably hurt quite a bit if it falls on their head or toes. While we are on the subject, the lids and bottoms have sharp edges that make them a little dangerous. We think they missed their mark of quality on this wooden play food, but it’s a fairly good set for slightly older children.
