Elmo has a restaurant! His friends join him there. Now your child can, too. Kids love Sesame Street and all the characters that have come from that famous show. Fisher-Price Elmo’s Restaurant brings the sights and sounds home to your child.

This play kitchen has a cash register that really works. The stove has a burner that makes bubbling sounds when a pot is placed on top of it, and it makes sizzling sounds when a pan is set on top of it. Elmo, Oscar, Grover, Bert, Ernie, and Cookie Monster all say funny things or make sounds when children are busy working at the restaurant or who come to dine in.

This Fisher-Price play kitchen is great for two or more children to gather round and play. During our test session, there was a flurry of activity around each play kitchen. The little ones enjoyed taking the menu from Grover’s hand and hearing him talk to them. There was a lot of taking it out, putting it back, taking it out, putting it back, etc., to make Grover speak.

This playset is recommended for ages 18 months and up. Our staff felt that just about any age group could enjoy this kitchen. Three “AA” batteries are required for operation, and they are included with the toy. Parents will need a Philips head screwdriver to assemble the restaurant.

Play kitchens such as this one are known to increase a little one’s love of learning about food, restaurants, recipes, and food preparation. These toys can be educational as well as fun. Parents always love that factor about a toy. Included with the restaurant are healthy foods like broccoli, milk, and eggs, as well as the favorites of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a pizza slice, and hamburger with bun.

The cash register is received a lot of attention. To several kids, that was one of their favorite parts – ringing up “customer’s checks” and playing cashier. Twelve bills of paper money in colors are also included.

Fisher-Price Elmo’s Restaurant has lots of surprises in store for your little ones. When one child takes Elmo’s spatula, he will speak. When little ones open and close the oven of this great toy, Cookie Monster will talk. Bert and Ernie each have knobs with their pictures on them, and when children move them, the characters tell the kids whether they are increasing the heat or lowering it. And, when a patron’s order is complete, there is even a bell to ring to signal to the “server” that the order is ready.

When children open and close the refrigerator door, Oscar will make sounds and say fun phrases. There is also a working microphone on Fisher-Price Elmo’s Restaurant. Over 20 pieces come with the restaurant set and storage spaces built into the unit collect them all nicely when little ones aren’t playing with them.

Our staff found that there is minimal assembly required to set up this toy. However, a parent will need to assist in snapping the legs and arch to the main structure. Each piece fits easily together and securely locks in place. Once assembled, the unit was not designed to be taken apart as each “snap” is a “one-time” operation. The on/off switch is located inside the oven and will need to be flipped to “on” before the restaurant is fully operational.
